TV/MEDIA MARKET & THE NEW DIRECTION OF MEDIA
."The bigger picture here is that the basic business model of cable, where consumers buy a giant bundle of channels, most of which they will never watch, suddenly seems on the verge of extinction. The rise of new options from Netflix, Amazon, Sling, Sony, and perhaps Apple in the near future has forced Verizon, typically not a company that rocks the boat, to acknowledge that consumers are coming to expect a new reality."

ACADEMICS
A BRAND SYNONYMOUS WITH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF NCAA ATHLETICS
The Game of the Century in college basketball was a historic NCAA game between the University of Houston Cougars and the UCLA Bruins, at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. It was the first NCAA regular season game broadcast nationwide in prime time. It established college basketball as a sports commodity on television and paved the way for the modern "March Madness" television coverage.

TAKING RECRUITS FROM BIG 12 TEAMS?
There are a lot of recruits in Texas & Houston!
Texas produces around 259 3/4/5-stars every year, the most in the nation

15.3% of ALL recruits who sign with any FBS team are from Texas, which is around 358.
"The sheer magnitude of the numbers is also impressive. The national average signing day class is a fraction over 19 commits (and also very stable), which means that Texas annually produces enough players to fill about 18 recruiting classes" http://www.footballstudyhall.com/2013/9/11/4718442/college-football-state-texas-california-florida |
Houston's Harris County produced the second most college football athletes in america, second to L.A .County. L.A. County produced only a 100 more despite being double the size and population

Oklahoma is the only non-Texas team in the big 12 to get a top 20 Texas recruit in the time span.
Adding Houston doesn't hurt recruiting it HELPS, the data above shows that there is more than enough recruits in Texas and Houston that one more P5 team shouldn't drastically alter anyone's recruiting class. At the same time playing in a game that is 10-15 minutes from where the recruits live can definitely have a major positive impact on the recruiting for teams further away. Adding A&M to the SEC didn't hurt the SEC's Texas recruiting it dramatically improved it, especially for teams like Ole Miss and Miss. State who were a bit further away.
